Taking the reader on a chronological and visual journey, decade by decade, Chula Vista Centennial: A Century of People and Progress brings to life the historical facts and personal recollections of residents, educators and leaders in business and local government. From the images of the town’s Great Flood to stories about the first dog catcher and historic home preservation, readers will experience the hardships and good times that made Chula Vista the community it is today.
Full-color maps of the city’s growth and over 200 historic photos highlight the development in industry, commerce, politics and culture, preserving the city’s legacy.
“Anyone who knows and loves Chula Vista will find this Centennial book to be a real treasure,” said Ken Kramer from KBPS’s About San Diego. “From the days of citrus and celery to the world champion Little League Blue Bombers, its wonderfully researched stories and fascinating photographs are a proud and lasting tribute to the city.”
Author and television journalist Loren Nancarrow said, “From the city’s early beginnings of triumph over fires, freezes and the Big Flood, to overcoming current economic challenges, both nationally and locally, this book is testimony to the power of a community working together,”
